New York Gamelan NY Hall of Science 1999

A Sonic Global Village for the Kid Power exhibition at the New York Hall of Science. Xylophones, Sonic-Tubes (tuned pipes played by slapping the open ends with beach sandals), and Big Ears for listening to sounds overhead. All instruments feature a Universal Global Tuning common to Indonesia, Africa, China, India, and American Jazz."There are no wrong notes in the Sonic Kingdom"

New York Gamelan / Xylophones

Xylophones of different sizes and materials, some up to 6' feet in length (copper, brass, stainless steel and aluminum) are played by striking with mallets. Kids learn about timbre, or the sound qualities of different materials.

  

 

 

New York Gamelan / Big Ears

For listening at a "higher level". Children hear the Universal Global Tuning of the Sound Playground from 8 feet above their heads.
