6th st. & Ave B Garden NYC 1997

270 foot fence composed of laser cutouts of community garden members' hands on the Lower East Side of New York City. The hands are a gesture of protection for the garden and a Big Wave to the neighborhood. Fabricated of steel and stainless steel.

The Big Wave (gate detail) Designed as a collaboration with artist/designer Kim DePole. Commissioned by The Trust for Public Land in partnership with the City of New York and underwritten by a lead grant from Metropolitan Life Foundation. The garden is a City Space site under City of New York Parks and Recreation, Green Thumb Program.
